Bitcoin accumulation can be examined through public blockchain data, but wallet addresses do not necessarily identify the people or organisations that control them. That distinction matters when you interpret claims about Bitcoin HODLers or ownership concentration.
What holder metrics show
One available measure tracks the number of Bitcoin addresses holding at least 1,000 BTC. This describes balances associated with addresses rather than confirmed individual owners.
Long-term-holder supply offers another view. CoinGlass defines long-term holders as addresses that have held Bitcoin for 155 days or more. LookIntoBitcoin also presents a chart of circulating Bitcoin supply held by addresses meeting that 155-day definition.
How to interpret accumulation
Address-balance and long-term-holder metrics describe different aspects of Bitcoin holdings. Read each chart according to its stated definition, and avoid treating an address count as a verified count of owners. Public supply information may be visible on-chain, while the true ownership behind addresses can remain unclear.
